Benefits of Stone Patio Pavers

  1. Longevity: Stone pavers are incredibly durable and maintain their integrity for decades, resisting wear and tear from weather conditions and other stresses.
  2. Low Maintenance: With proper installation, stone pavers require very minimal upkeep. Regular sweeping and occasional sealing will keep your patio looking fresh without the need for extensive repairs.
  3. Versatility: Pavers are available in various shapes, sizes, and colors, and offer endless design possibilities, allowing you to customize your patio to complement your home.
  4. Natural Drainage: The gaps between pavers allow for natural drainage, reducing water pooling and the risk of erosion, which will prolong the life of your patio.

Installing Stone Patio Pavers

Here is a simple step-by-step guide that we use to help you install your patio pavers:

  1. Planning and Design: Decide on the dimensions of your patio. Use stakes and string or marking paint to outline the area.
  2. Prepare the Area: Clear the designated space of grass, weeds, and debris. Dig down about 6-8 inches to accommodate the base material.
  3. Create a Base: Add a layer of crushed stone or gravel to the excavated area, leveling it out with a rake. This base will provide stability and support.
  4. Compact: Use a plate compactor to ensure your base is set firmly.
  5. Final Base Layer: Spread a layer of ⅜ chip stone (about 1-2 inch thick) over the base. Use an 8ft level or wooden board to level it, creating a smooth surface for the pavers.
  6. Lay the Pavers: Start laying the pavers in your desired pattern, leaving small gaps between each one for sand to fill. Tap each paver gently into place using a rubber mallet.
  7. Fill the Gaps: Once all pavers are in place, sweep fine sand (ploysand) over the surface to fill the gaps. This helps to lock the pavers in and prevents shifting.
  8. Water Surface: Soak surface with water to ensure material is compact and secure.
